No one doubts being an entrepreneur is a tremendous challenge, but what about when you have depression?
Well, last week I had the great pleasure of being a guest on the Stigma of Mental Illness Radio Show with Chrissie Hodges to discuss the bigger issues of being an entrepreneur with depression.
Now as some of you know (and many of you probably don’t) I’ve dealt with depression for most of my life.
And I’ve had my share of difficulties, but I’ve also learned how to rise above my depression and not let it rule my life or my business.
So when my good friend Chrissie started her radio show to spread awareness on behalf of the growing population of individuals suffering in silence with depression and mental illness, I decided now would be a good time to share my story and support her cause.
So right now you maybe thinking, “Jeez… who wants to listen to an hour of two people talking about depression?”
Well, while depression is typically a pretty heavy subject, this interview is definitely on the lighter and informative side.
Kudos to Chrissie, as she has an amazing talent of getting to the heart of this tough subject while having fun at the same time.
So seriously, it’s not two people on downers talking about mental illness!
But, before we jump into the details of the show, I have to make a few disclaimers to make, so bear with me.
This was my first radio interview so I admit I was a bit nervous and rambled in circles at times.
Luckily, Chrissie is a pro and got me back on track rather quickly.
I help entrepreneurs create a rock solid mindset, overcome their fears, move past limiting beliefs and change negative thinking patterns.
But there are times when a client needs more than coaching to move forward and if I feel therapy is needed, I absolutely recommend they seek it. And I support them in getting it. Men especially can be pretty darn stubborn about going to therapy, so I always share my experience and ensure them they will not be less of man for going and getting help!
I’m a huge believer in therapy and would not be the coach I am today without it, but let me be clear I’m not a licensed therapist nor do I practice any type of psychotherapy.
Ok, disclaimers done, let’s move onto the show
Besides talking about me, we discuss the mental and emotional roller coaster many entrepreneurs go through building and running a business and how it is amplified many times over with a mental disorder.
And we talk about how depression and entrepreneurship has long been viewed as a taboo subject, but through the tragic loss of some of Silicon Valley’s brightest entrepreneurs it is finally coming more out into the open.
I also share my thoughts on how your mindset is everything when it comes to being an entrepreneur, leader or anyone who wants a successful business and
So do yourself a favor and have a listen to this lighthearted, fun and informative take on depression, mindset, beliefs and the life of an entrepreneur.
Please help stamp out the stigma
A huge thanks to Chrissie Hodges for allowing me to share my story.
